| man... i haven't xanga-ed for a LONG time! being at my parents' home though makes me wanna xanga!
so my new favorite game: blokus. the bins introduced this awesome game to me. i'm obsessed! i think about it, i dream about it. during our book club meeting, instead of making a poster thing, i got my group to play blokus! and i ended up with zero blocks!! (did you get that, david?! ZERO!!!) and now i'm playing it online too.
also, i've been watching battlestar galactica (BSG) season 1. we're borrowing it from paul. i have to say, it's not the greatest sci-fi but it's pretty fun. every episode, i say, "Dumb! i don't wanna watch this anymore." only to wanna watch another episode the next day.
on tv, i'm hooked on millionaire matchmaker.
anyways. most of my life now is spent working, recovering from work, and catapulting.
what's a post without pictures? i don't have my camera on me but here's some i've been meaning to post...

| CHICAGO/evanston
so last week, i flew back with jane son to her town(s). chicago is awesome. the weather was awesome, it was green, it was fun, it was delicious. but best of all, jane was there. jane asked me to compile a list of things i wanted to do. here's what we got to. wohoo.

the walk from the "L" line (... elevated line?) to her house. they have mehmies (cicadas). i have come to HATE mehmies from my experience in korea. jane says they come every 7 or 14 years. she can't remember. in any case, it's this year.

when we get to her house, lo and behold, there are deer in her driveway.

that night, jane wanted to take me to a pita place she likes but i spotted an afghan restaurant. having recently read kite runner and thousand splendid suns, i wanted to check it out. it was pretty good. ask jane.

the next morning, we went to the notrebaert nature museum to see the butterflies and more.

i took a picture with cousin it. just kidding. it's jane.

there were a lot of cool and kinda random things to look at:

but the butterfly room was the main attraction. it's like the one at san diego wild animal park. pretty cool until they fly too close to you. then it's freaky. also, esther um says that if you touch a butterfly and then touch your eyes, you'll go blind. mike chong later told us the same thing. what in the world? i've never heard that in my life. not even in PA school.

  the view from the museum:

then my tour guide miss son drove us to a bakery place called... sweet mandy b something or other. (?)

unfortunately, we didn't get to eat the sweets til a day or two later. it was still good. why?? we were on the way to the much praised maxwell's, or original jim's hot dog! STRONGLy recommended by michigan. it was OK. i still like my smoky bonfire hotdogs the best.

jenga! jenga! jenga!

the next day we took the architectural society's boat tour along the chicago river. it was fantastic and i would highly recommend it.

ate a skinny a wreck on wheat from potbelly for lunch. YUMMY!

so of course, we made our way to millenium park.

i really love that bean. me flicking the bean, jane and the bean, me and the bean, lifting the bean (boy it's heavy!), our reflection in the bean, random kids and the bean, bean bean bean.

we also went to the married with children buckingham fountain. it is BIG.

then dragged our tired butts home on the L.

for dinner, we went out for some thai

then went to homer's for some homemade icecream.

the next day, jane drove us to the chicago botanical garden. i love gardens and this is the mother of all gardens. it's like 300 some acres!!

we then stopped by north america's one and only bahai' temple. there are only 7 in the world.
it turns out it's like a few blocks from jane's house. haha. who knew. she didn't.
so i saw lake michigan. and folks, it is HUGE. wowzas. you really can't see the otherside. but no swimming.
jane doing a modeling pose (we watched antm the night before)
hmm... i guess i forgot to take a picture of the lake itself.
but here's a lighthouse!

that night, we went over to mike and liz and josie and lulu's for some of chicago's deep dish pizza. with kimchi. mike banished me to the other side of the table for eating kimchee with my pizza. the chongs seem to be doing well in chicago. we bought josie a knife, cutting board and some food items to cut. andy was there visiting also so we all got to hang out! we went out for some ice cream at....whosawahisti. haha. just kidding. i forget. it's a place that still delivers milk in bottles to people's doors. we had so much fun with the chongs and andy!

shared my 7:30 AM flight to long beach with evelyn! what a nice surprise! also met janet. hi janet! (i know you're reading this) :)

thanks jane!! for EVERYTHING! miss you already!

THE END.
You all should visit chicago while jane's still there. they have a BIG house with a guest room! and two affectionate cats! she's only gonna be there for 3 more months. or 9.

| SUMMER IS OVER.
i love summers for the seemingly everlasting sunshine, smoky bonfire hotdogs, and warm nights spent outdoors.
sigh. can't wait til next summer.
for now, here's a recap of the second half of my summer.
attended family camp as a homebuilder, which for me as part of andrew kim's family, means i am encouraged to turn in early. still got to put in some hours of game time though. learned to play cities and knights which was AWESOME! thanks to hugo for his patience and honesty as he taught us the workings of this cool expansion of settlers of catan.
  devious bins

pastor steve and my new student christine chang! can you believe she's in highschool now?!
the cuddliest baby... giving you the stinkeye.

i started work at Dr. Castellanos' Medical Clinic and i LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! i would seriously recommend him to anyone! he treats all his patients the way he would want his own family treated. also, hi ho is down the street. daniel's dad is so nice. he gave me free watermelon. :)
our office manager on his birthday
cupcakes! i LOVE cupcakes! and i love this office. have i mentioned that already??

2nd to last wedding of the summer in San Jose. I met more of andrew's classmates... sat at a table of dentists and luckily, their wives/girlfriends. whew. i don't know how much dental talk i can handle.

met up with andrew's roommate MARVIN of marvalicious inc. also met up with amy, her boyfriend luke, mike, dan shin, and hanna but... no picture.

jane june's last in-n-out burger before heading out to NYU that night. these walnut sisters... they crack me up.

this was the first of the Saturday morning bike rides from church office in walnut to our home in chino hills. i confess i did not think it could be done but i was proved wrong. it only took them 1.5 hours! they say that their seats are so hard, spandex shorts with cushy butts is a must. stretching
 warming up
 en route
 GGGGGGOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLL!!!

what's it called? heavenly soak? something like that. $15 for an hour massage. for real. check it out. it's where the old ralphs and now pakkai (?) is. went with my parents after dinner.

the new highschool girls class got together for a sleepover at our house. boy, it was crazy. we made personalized french bread pizzas, i made em smoothies with my new magic bullet, played games and watched movies til 3:30 am, woke up at 7am to play speed scrabble, had breakfast (pancakes, eggs, lil smokies, and an el cotixan burrito dropped off by peter pyun at 3am) then went to church.

had a son/jun sibling reunion

mary and mike's wedding (M&M). the last of many summer weddings.
andrew and some of his cousins. my cousins. our cousins.
 cuties jaden and JJ

saromie our homie on her birthday. she got lots of stares that night at yardhouse and birchstreet. lil, you're a genius.

painted last weekend with lillian, had the bins over... and michigan found this "leaf" in our living room. turns out, it's probably a sun spider. (thanks michigan and lil for researching). living in chino hills is like living in the wild.

currently in chicago with miss son. flew back with her for her last quarter at northwestern. soon she will be jane son, speech pathologist.

chicago pictures to be posted soon............
